Ericksen: Trump Administration right to repeal overreaching Obama-era energy rule

OLYMPIA – Sen. Doug Ericksen, R-Ferndale, released the following statement regarding the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to reverse Obama Administration rules overriding states’ authority to regulate power-plant emissions, dictating national energy policy under the guise of environmental protection. Ericksen is chair of the Senate Energy, Environment and Telecommunications Committee.

“The Obama Administration clearly overstepped its authority in dictating an administrative rule with sweeping effect on the energy sector and our national economy, without first seeking the approval of Congress. The EPA is right to roll back this unconstitutional overreach, which would have driven up energy prices for working families nationwide.

“We should all be disturbed by this power grab and the tendency of the past administration to ignore the elected representatives of the people. The Trump Administration is right to restore respect for the constitution, and to check the ambitions of those who consider the rule of law unimportant.”
