New COVID restrictions point up need for special session, public involvement, Ericksen says

Sen. Doug Ericksen, R-Ferndale, released the following statement Monday in response to Gov. Jay Inslee’s announcement of new COVID restrictions and a renewed lockdown of restaurants, bars and other businesses.

“COVID is serious business, but I have great concern about this new lockdown order. Whatever we do as a state needs to be in line with the actual threat to public health. Shutting down the economy of the state of Washington is not the answer.

“We are long past the point where unilateral emergency proclamations from the governor’s office are appropriate. The public hasn’t had a chance for input since this started eight months ago. The entire state needs to be part of the solution, and the way to ensure all voices are heard is for the Legislature to reconvene in special session. These are difficult times, but they are made more difficult when the people are shut out.”
